Kununurra Masterplan/

CLIENT: Hassell

SECTOR: Civic

LOCATION: Kununurra NT

TIMEFRAME: 2025-current

Artify has been engaged by Hassell as part of the multidisciplinary team masterplanning the Kununurra town centre and six key precincts across the region. Working closely with the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley and project partners, Artify is delivering specialist public art and cultural strategy advice to support Kununurra Reimagined, the Shire's initiative to shape the town's development over the next 20 years by strengthening identity, celebrating Miriwoong culture and supporting young people and local creatives.

Central to this work is deep and ongoing engagement with the people of Kununurra, including Traditional Owners and Miriwoong Gajerrong Elders, MG Corporation, key Aboriginal stakeholders, residents, youth, businesses and creatives. Through co-designed workshops, surveys, validation sessions and creative forums, community voices are informing the project's cultural direction and future public art opportunities, grounding the work in cultural leadership, truth-telling and lived experience.

Artify has developed a Public Art Vision, a comprehensive Public Art Masterplan and a supporting Curatorial Framework, defining opportunities across the precincts including a Cultural Trail linking the town centre to the foreshore, youth-led co-creation projects and integrated artworks responsive to the Kimberley's climate. Alongside feasibility studies and advice on procurement and commissioning pathways, Artify is guiding the Shire on the governance, policy and implementation structures needed to deliver the program sustainably over time. The masterplan will continue to evolve through collaboration, with the project scheduled to conclude in 2026.
