High Wycombe Community Hub/

CLIENT: City of Kalamunda

SECTOR: Civic

LOCATION: Kalamunda WA

TIMEFRAME: 2025-current

The City of Kalamunda engaged Artify to prepare the Public Art Strategy for the High Wycombe Community Hub, guiding the commissioning and integration of artworks across the Hub's outdoor spaces.

The Hub is a landmark community infrastructure project delivered by the City of Kalamunda, bringing together an aquatic and recreation centre, flexible community spaces and landscaped public realm to meet the needs of a fast growing community. It is the first major activation of the High Wycombe train station precinct within the METRONET East Redevelopment Area, and is intended to act as a catalyst for the wider precinct as it takes shape.

The site sits on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja, at the foothills of the Darling Scarp, in a living cultural landscape of jarrah and marri forest, wetlands and waterways shaped by the Waugal. Artify's Strategy sets out the vision and objectives for public art, an overview of the site's cultural and historical context, and a curatorial framework supported by mapped opportunities, alongside clear guidance for artist engagement, assessment and delivery.

The approach was grounded in community. It responds to the City's Local Planning Policy and Public Art Master Plan, its Arts and Culture Strategy and Kalamunda Futures Youth Plan, and draws directly on 2025 community consultation and a Cultural Engagement Workshop held with Noongar Elders and Traditional Owners. Those conversations surfaced the stories that shape the work, connection to nature, the area's Aboriginal histories, and a strong sense of community and family across a multicultural, intergenerational place.
