In 2024, the City of Melville appointed Artify to lead the public art program for the Goolugatup Lowerlands renewal, a major civic landscape redevelopment on the foreshore of Derbal Yerrigan. Working alongside the City, landscape architects UDLA, fabricators and Whadjuk Cultural Advisors Karen Jacobs and Elisha Jacobs, Artify developed a culturally responsive art plan and led an artist procurement process centred on cultural integrity, accessibility and long-term community relevance.

Central to the project was a three-day on-Country design workshop facilitated by Artify, bringing shortlisted artists together with Cultural Advisors, landscape architects and fabricators for cultural briefings, site walks and collaborative design. This enabled Whadjuk Noongar artists to respond directly to the ecological and cultural narratives of Goolugatup, and to embed those stories in artworks integrated into the landscape, including shade canopies, pathways, seating and groundplane treatments. Artify is supporting the artists through every phase, from concept and material selection to fabrication detailing and delivery.

The resulting works draw on Whadjuk cultural knowledge, endemic species, waterways and gathering practices connected to the site. Rod Garlett developed canopy and groundplane concepts inspired by the Wagyl and freshwater systems, while Yabini Kickett created integrated works referencing Wannil leaves, native orchids, Juncus reeds and twining traditions specific to Derbal Yerrigan.
