Silver Thomas Hanley engaged Artify as Public Art Consultant for the new Surgicentre at Bentley Health Service, a major redevelopment expanding the hospital's surgical capacity with six operating theatres, two procedure rooms and a 24-bed surgical ward. Opened in 1967 as the first public hospital south of the Swan River, BHS carries a long legacy of care, and the Surgicentre marks its first site-specific public art commissions.

Artify developed the Public Art Plan that guides the commissioning of artwork across the Surgicentre's interior and outdoor spaces, setting out the vision, curatorial framework and opportunities, along with the guidance for artist procurement and delivery. Our role spans the curatorial vision, artist procurement and engagement, and specialist advice through design and delivery, ensuring outcomes are integrated, site-responsive and grounded in the experience of those who stay, visit and work here.

At the heart of the work is a curatorial framework shaped by the understanding that art in a healthcare setting offers real physical, cultural and mental support, an invitation to reflection, healing and human connection. Two themes hold the artworks together. This Living Place reflects the hospital as a holistic environment of healing and wellbeing, where care is offered through spaces and connections as much as through people. A Place That Shelters celebrates the hospital as an inclusive community where everyone feels welcomed, recognised and supported. Both are grounded in the living presence of Beeloo Whadjuk Noongar Country and the restorative qualities of nature.
