Artify was engaged by DevelopmentWA to provide public art consultancy services for the Alkimos Central Public Art Masterplan, working closely with the project team, cultural consultants and local stakeholders to prepare a comprehensive, strategic guide for public art delivery across the precinct.
The Masterplan sets out a long-term framework for commissioning and delivering public artworks, from 2024 through to the precinct's completion in 2050. Artworks will be delivered through a mix of procurement pathways, including DevelopmentWA-funded commissions and developer-led projects, ensuring a coordinated, high-quality program that contributes meaningfully to Alkimos Central's evolving public realm.
To support a cohesive, place-based program, Artify developed a curatorial framework shaped through research, contextual analysis and Elder consultation. It provides overarching themes and site-responsive narratives aligned with Alkimos Central's cultural heritage, coastal environment and community aspirations, guiding artists and decision-makers in delivering artworks of enduring relevance and integrity.
The Masterplan also serves as a best-practice guide for developers commissioning public art within their own project boundaries. By setting clear objectives, curatorial themes, governance processes and commissioning methodologies, it ensures future developer-led works align with the broader precinct vision, creating a complementary and culturally respectful suite of artworks that celebrate Alkimos Central's identity over time.
