DevelopmentWA engaged Artify to provide public art consultancy services for the redevelopment of the former Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) site in Subiaco as part of the 1909 Subi East renewal project. Artify has worked closely with DevelopmentWA to develop and implement a Public Art Masterplan for the precinct, identifying opportunities for integrated artworks, heritage interpretation and community-led initiatives that respond to the site’s history and evolving identity.
The first major artwork commission for the precinct was completed in December 2023, transforming the 53-metre Boiler House Chimney Stack. The artwork, Here Together, is a collaboration between USA-based artist MOMO and Perth-born Abdul Abdullah. The project combines a bold 360-degree mural with sculptural neon lighting elements, creating a vibrant landmark visible across Subiaco.
Additional artworks form part of the evolving public art program, including an engraved poetry work by poet Mags Webster, Here, the histories vibrate (2025), commemorating the patients, families and caregivers connected to Princess Margaret Hospital.
Artify has also coordinated an extensive community engagement and education program with nearby schools including Bob Hawke College and Perth Modern School, featuring artist talks, workshops and a public art training program for students. The program informed the design of a new underpass mural by artists Chris Nixon and Kyle Hughes-Odgers, connecting student learning with a permanent public artwork within the precinct. Selected student artworks are also reproduced on site hoardings through the Here Together Student Art Exhibition, creating a temporary outdoor gallery that activates the precinct during development while showcasing emerging creative voices.
