EOI CALL OUT: Public Artists

Public Transport Centre 50th Anniversary Art Commission

Artwork Opportunity

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) invites experienced artists or artist teams to submit Expressions of Interest to design, fabricate and install a major two-dimensional public artwork at the Public Transport Centre (PTC) in Perth, Western Australia.

The lead artist must be living or working in Perth, Western Australia for the duration of the project.

This significant commission marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the PTC building, to be celebrated on 12 November 2026. The artwork will deliver a strong contemporary artistic statement that acknowledges the past, present and future of the building, the PTA, and the many people who pass through this important transport hub each day.

The opportunity is for an ambitious frieze-style artwork to be installed along the interior vertical panelling of the regional and interstate train platform canopy. Located directly above the platform edge, the artwork will be experienced at moments of arrival and departure, overhead as passengers step on and off trains, commute to work, say goodbye, or arrive from afar.

Artists are invited to respond to themes of threshold, transition, movement and time, embracing the scale, linearity and visibility of the site while responding sensitively to the PTC’s distinctive architecture and operational history.
