Goolugatup Lowerlands Renewal /
Artify was engaged by the City of Melville to commission Whadjuk artists David Jones, Rod Garlett, and Yabini Kickett for the Goolugatup Lowerlands Renewal Project—a landmark initiative that honours the site’s deep cultural heritage while reimagining it for the community of today.
Due for completion in 2027, the project will transform the Lowerlands with public artworks, interpretive signage, a yarning circle, and a medicinal garden featuring native plants such as bloodroot and quandong. Together, these elements will bring stories of Country to the forefront, creating a place of connection, reflection, and renewal.
As part of the journey, Artify partnered with the City of Melville, Cultural Advisor Karen Jacobs, and UDLA to deliver a three-day workshop where the artists came together to share stories, exchange knowledge, and begin shaping their concepts.
Following the workshop, our team has been working closely with each artist to develop and refine their designs, which will be integrated into shade canopies, groundplanes, and rammed earth walls—embedding Whadjuk culture into the very fabric of the landscape for generations to come.
