In 2024, the Larrakia Development Corporation (LDC) engaged Artify to develop the Public Art Plan for the Larrakia Cultural Centre, a major cultural tourism and industry initiative for Garramilla (Darwin). Working closely with LDC, ROSSI Architects, Bennett Architecture, Freeman Ryan Design and Sunbuild, Artify developed a culturally responsive curatorial and commissioning framework, aligned with the aspirations of Larrakia Elders and centred on the cultural narratives, totems and stories connected to Country and community.

Following the Art Plan, Artify was engaged to deliver the full public art scope, from curation and artist design support through to production management. Central to the process was careful artist engagement and selection to ensure representation across the eight major Larrakia family groups, the Traditional Owners of the Darwin region.

The commissioning process included a series of hands-on design-assist workshops, supported by the Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support (IVAIS) Program and attended by 12 Larrakia artists. Covering 2D and 3D design, material exploration, fabrication and installation, the workshops supported artists to translate cultural knowledge into integrated public art. Working with LDC and the Elder Working Group, 17 commissions involving 11 Larrakia artists were developed across the project, including a suspended artwork, entry sculptures, art canopies, decorative screens, bespoke interior finishes, playscapes and discovery sculptures.

Artify engaged and managed specialist fabricators across Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Darwin. A particular focus throughout was keeping Larrakia artists hands-on in the making of their work, with Artify securing Art Flight grants so artists could work directly alongside fabricators during production.
